A saltwater pool is one of the most desirable things for a homeowner in more recent times. It can actually drive up the value of your house by a few thousand dollars. What makes them most desirable is the fact that it makes you feel like you’re in a tropical paradise, maybe that you can open your eyes under the water without the chlorine burning your eyes or simply that the water feels smoother and less abrasive. Either way, they are becoming more and more affordable. They are wonderful and facilitate healthier living. Here are a few things you may not have known about Saltwater Pools:

Is it really salt?
A salt pool actually doesn’t use salt to properly clean and sanitize itself. In fact, it is a salt generator that generates chlorine. A salt generator uses the sodium that has been added to the pool as it runs through the piping the “salt cell” uses metal plates that has electric currents to charge the salt ions inztochlorine gas. The chloride property is then dissolved and pure chlorine water returns to the pool. It must be noted though that the levels of chlorine in a salt pool virus a traditional chlorine pool are like night and day. A salt pool maintains a low level of chlorine which is why it is enough to keep algae out, low enough allowing you to open your eyes underwater and enjoy soft skin while swimming.

Spending a little more could save you.
When picking the right cell, it can be crucial. Ensure that a salt generator that is rated for almost double you pool size is chosen. Salt cells usually come rated for various pool sizes e.g. 10k, 25k, 40k etc. Our advise at Pools By Delite is to go with one that is rated for more gallons which will in turn increase the life of the cell up to two years.

Chlorine pools can be converted to saltwater.
Just about any pool can easily become a saltwater pool. The term conversion is often used in reference to switching a pool from chlorine to salt. To most clients this sounds like an elaborate task including huge renovations and maybe some heavy duty machinery to do so. That is not at all the case. A salt generator system can quite easily be installed by one of our professionals within a matter of a couple hours. So don’t let the term saltwater conversion scare you or your wallet. It can be considered more of an addition to the equipment rather than a complete overhaul or renovation.

No maintenance required?
Saltwater pools are luxurious and they can definitely save you money in the long run, they will even help out by adding chlorine automatically to your pool. You can install a salt system and wipe your hands of continuous pool maintenance. a salt cell generates a higher positive pH which constantly raises the pH in the pool. A Muriatic acid which is a pH down needs to be often added. The cells also need to be inspected, cleaned and reset once every 3 months. Just like with a chlorine pool it will need the usual skimming, brushing and vacuuming. You still need to clean your pool but the chemical balancing is much easier.

Way more affordable!
When saltwater pools first came out they were quite pricey, however, with time as competition rose the prices have fallen. There are various salt generators on the market that can be installed for less than $1,500. Great news…a Saltwater Pool is now more affordable then ever before!
